One out of three adults over the age of 65 falls every year. One in 10 falls results in serious injuries. A fall can drastically change a person’s quality of life by having a residual decrease in mobility and a fear of falling again. Sixty percent of fallers express a “fear of falling,” and 33% indicate a restriction of activities due to fear. You can reduce your risk of falling.
At the outbreak of the Civil war there were only 106 doctors in the whole Union army, and many were either physically unfit for active duty or had let their medical skills lapse. There were no nurses, no ambulance corps, and no means of transporting wounded from the battlefield to the hospitals. Sanitary practices and public health measures were still in their infancy and utterly deplorable.
