Evergreen Walk for Wilderness
Celebrating 50 years of the Wilderness Act of 1964

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the enactment of the Wilderness Act of 1964 which was signed into law by President Johnson on September 3, 1964. Today over 109 million acres of wilderness are administered under four Federal Land Agencies: The National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management.

A celebratory Walk for Wilderness Event is set for Saturday, September 6, 2014 9am to 2pm. This five mile walk begins at Bergen Park at 9:00 AM and ends at the Evergreen Lake House. Festivities continue at the Lake House with live music, numerous exhibits and a program of distinguished speakers. The Friends of Mount Evans and Lost Creek Wildernesses, in cooperation with the Forest Service, are planning this event as a family and friends day of fun, exercise, and wilderness education focused on Colorado’s great outdoors.
