—EVERGREEN TILE COMPANY—
Voted Best Of...in the fix-up category for 2010 Kurt and Pam Jakobson
| by Jo Ann M. ColtonPam and Kurt Jakobson, owners of Evergreen Tile Company since 2001, were voted by mountain residents as the “Best Fix-up” company in the Mountain Connection’s 2010 contest. “We want to take this opportunity to thank our supporters and also the Mountain Connection,” announced both Pam and Kurt. Kurt Jakobson touts 25 years in the tile business. With experience in the Caribbean and Sweden (his birthplace), he was often sought out by insurance companies for his work expertise in matters of mildew containment and waterproofing. Kurt is also registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and certified to test for and remove lead-based paint on any given project work site. Lead paint, used prior to 1978, is a health hazard and has had a big impact on Denver and the mountain communities. By law, contractors must now be lead-based paint certified or must walk away from that specific job. Evergreen Tile Company was founded on old-world craftsmanship, quality installations, old-school work ethics and “uncompromised competitive prices.” The Jakobsons maintain ongoing working relationships with independent and skilled Evergreen area tradesmen (Chris Glass for glasswork, Mountain Drains for plumbing, and Current Electric for electrical matters) who also take pride in their work. “We are the four musketeers,” said Kurt with a grin. “We simply offer these guys their trade portion of the project and we never take a cut for the referral.” Pam Jakobson is in charge of purchasing, project design, office administration and customer service. Kurt Jakobson does all the tile work himself. “A verbal estimate is given followed by a written contract and there are no hidden charges,” Kurt said. “We are very customer oriented, always arriving at the project home on time and always keeping the customer in the loop” added Pam who explained that communication is a major factor in customer satisfaction. Much of their work is based on repeat customers and customer referrals. “We strive to maintain a courteous and positive attitude, and we are very respectful of the homeowners’ privacy and property. We even cover furniture and floor traffic areas to minimize construction dust.” Evergreen Tile Company is on the cutting edge of its industry installing tile, granite and marble countertops, customized built-in lifts (for televisions, appliances and bar accessories), fixtures, vanities and more. “Don’t be afraid to call us. We can steer your remodel project in many different directions with a variety of product options and money-saving renovation solutions,” said Kurt Jakobson. —GRANT AUTOMOTIVE—
Grant will get your vehicle ready to roll & keep it purring | Ben Grant, born and raised locally, owner of Grant Automotive | by Kristin WittOver the past few years, and even more in the current year, we have learned as a nation that preservation is important, and often times more satisfying than starting over. We are doing it with our clothes, our homes, and if we’re smart, our cars. Maintenance and repair are less expensive than buying new and in many ways more responsible. Ben Grant, who was born and raised in the area, has been in the car repair business for 22 years. Ten of those years he has owned Grant Automotive. Located at 19356 Goddard Ranch Court in Morrison, Grant Automotive diagnoses and repairs every kind of car on the road, from Fords to Subarus, and they do it at a significant savings. “We run the same computer diagnostics as the dealerships and do the same repairs, a lot of times with the same factory parts, as the dealerships,” Grant explained. “But we do it for less money.” Grant Automotive requires that all of their technicians be ASE or Factory Certified, and Grant’s work comes with a 12-Month/15,000 Mile Nation Wide Guarantee. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of car repair and maintenance is the element of trust that exists or doesn’t between the car owner and the service adviser. Grant Automotive strives to alleviate this anxiety with accurate estimates, same day service and skilled mechanics who are experts in today’s automobiles and their complex systems. Grant’s high standards were recognized in 2003 when the Conifer Rotary Club honored him with its first Ethics in Business Award. Grant Automotive is able to do all its repair work on site, including pulling or replacing engines. The place you drop your car off is the same place where the work is actually done, allowing discussion of the process before the work is done. Grant Automotive is proud to offer accessibility to the technicians so that a full understanding of the repairs and the cost can be established from the beginning. Of course, the smartest thing to do with any car is to maintain it by the mile, allowing the owner to potentially avoid major breakdowns. Grant Automotive follows the manufacturers’ recommend-ations for regular oil changes and general inspection, offering a maintenance program that will keep your car running well even as the miles add up. In the case of major repairs Grant will take credit cards and also offers financing. It keeps a history of your vehicle so technicians have the ongoing familiarity they need to do the best job for your car. Enterprise Rent-a-Car is next door to Grant Automotive and is available should a replacement vehicle be needed while your car is being repaired. “We like to think of ourselves in partnership with the car owner,” Ben Grant said, “giving them the assurance that their car will be what they need it to be.” Make an appointment with their service advisers Don or Marty at Grant Automotive, 303-697-0225. You’re invited to “learn what confident car ownership feels like.” |

—LAW OFFICES OF BRUCE J. GORDON—
Legally bound—a lawyer with humanity Bruce Gordon, a lawyer with a touch of humor and lots of humanity.
| by Kristin WittThere is a lot of talk about lawyers and not all of it flattering. So to meet someone in the legal profession who is personable, engaging and even has a sense of humor—Bruce Gordon, an attorney in the Morrison area, is all of those things. If we find ourselves in need of legal counsel we expect expertise and competence; Bruce Gordon possesses both, but also brings a touch of refreshing humanity. Bruce has practiced law in Colorado ever since his graduation from the University of Denver Law School 29 years ago. A California native born and raised in the Oakland area, he completed his under graduate work at Stanford and then came to one of the best law schools in the country, DU. He has made his home here ever since. He practices in a wide variety of legal concerns including family law—divorce, custody, child support and post-decree representation—making up close to 50% of his practice. The remaining 50% is divided between personal injury law, criminal defense—litigating felony, misdemeanor and DUI cases—and liquor licensing and defense. He has practiced in the West Metro area for his entire career, opening his office in Morrison in 1998. “Helping people reach a successful resolution to whatever difficulty they find themselves in is the most satisfying part of practicing law,” Bruce explained. He understands that pursuing legal counsel is not an easy path to take, but in many cases, just talking with someone who is versed in the law can simplify an otherwise difficult decision. Bruce said he is committed to the personal care of his clients, making every effort to understand their circumstances beyond their legal dilemma. “I don’t see a client as a ‘case’, but as a person whom I might be able to help,” he said. And his commitment to integrity has not gone unnoticed amongst his peers. Bruce Gordon was awarded the AV Rating by Martindale Hubbell, an organization that recognizes the legal profession for exceptional work in two areas. The award is given, first, for demonstrating the “highest level of legal ability” and, second, for “displaying the highest level of commitment to ethics, conduct and reliability” in the practice of law. Bruce’s main concern is to understand your needs and help you achieve the peace of mind that comes from trusting your legal professional. He offers a free half-hour consultation and is open to client controlled involvement, allowing the client to decide how much of his help is wanted. Sometimes talking to someone who knows what he’s doing is exactly what you need, but talking to someone who cares is even better. With Bruce Gordon you get both. Bruce Gordon’s office is located in Morrison in the West Ranch Center, 19423 N. Turkey Creek Road at the intersection of U.S. Highway 285 and North Turkey Creek Road. He can be reached at 303-697-0575. |

—ST. MICHAEL'S HEALING CENTER—
Center opens with ‘intention to heal body & ease the mind’ Glenda and Al Cadarette | by Bethany Desch“When you put your faith in ‘Spirit’ to guide you, things just seem to work out” is the conviction that led Al Cadarette into an inspired union with his wife, a beautiful home in Evergreen and a new calling as a healer. More than 20 years ago, selling large pumps in the Louisiana oil refining industry, Al began seeking a “more meaningful” occupation. While on a business trip, he felt compelled to pop into a Sedona, Ariz., metaphysical bookstore hosting a festival of spirit readers. Unexpectedly, he learned he would be moving west into a place full of green trees. He also received the surprising message that he should consider becoming a healer. Though becoming a healer sat awkwardly in his engineering mind, he found himself guided by many “blessed coincidences”—what Al would consider the guidance of the Spirit. Once in Evergreen, Al stopped at the Bergen Village McDonalds to refresh himself after a day of house hunting, and he met a woman who forged a moment of connection by asking why he had come to Colorado. Answering that he came to study healing, the woman led Al to the “master healer” with whom he would study for the next year. All his life, people have validated Al’s intense heart energy and his great gift of non-judgment. Bolstered thus, and with loving intention, Al created St. Michael The Archangel Healing Center, a space created to heal distress and dis-ease in the mind and body. He researched the Evergreen area, discovering that while many people practice energetic healing, few are providing an actual hands-on approach. Al’s Catholic background evolved into a deep faith that there is a universal divine energy that provides the power for all healing, and that he is merely a vessel through which that energy can be channeled to revitalize the health and energy of his clients. A session with Al includes a consultation focusing on the client’s needs and beliefs, followed by a healing touch session on the healing table. “There is no magic involved but rather the powerful intention of presence and the invitation for the full flowering of each client’s divine energy, which in turn creates ease in the mind and health in the body,” Al explained. It can be rare to find people committed to take time to be “fully present and listen, and whose hearts are open to the intention of offering the service of healing,” but that is precisely what Al said he offers. Al is available by appointment. He can be reached at

—SUPERIOR PRODUCTS HOME IMPROVEMENTS—
Award-winning remodeling, customer service touted
Superior Products Home Improvements owner Tom Higgins is the 2010 Corporate Citizen of the Year. | by Sarah SchraadFounded by Tom Higgins nearly a decade ago, Superior Products Home Improvements is a family owned and operated exterior remodeling business serving the Denver metro and our mountain communities. Today the company includes 35 team members and remains known throughout the region for excellent craftsmanship in their remodeling projects. Higgins is the past chairman of the Denver Metro Home Builder Association’s (HBA) Remodeling Council. “We pride ourselves on, not only our craftsmanship, but also our professionalism, superior project management skills and fair pricing promise,” said Higgins. “In addition, commitment and loyalty to our customers is of extreme importance. We don’t just disappear once an installation has been completed, and we’re always available for any follow-up services and maintenance.” Initial consultations and estimates are free of charge, and project designs are created only after careful consideration is made to a client’s specific needs, budget and style. Higgins said that more than 60% of the company’s business is based on referrals and it is proud of the families they have become part of over the years. Exterior services include fiber cement, wood, stucco, and vinyl siding, replacement windows and doors, masonry, decking (arbors and pergolas), and roofing. Superior Products represents a variety of industry-leading manufacturers—Certainteed, Pella, Alcoa®, Dow Chemical, Dupont, Sherwin Williams, Moisture Shield and Atrium – many of which offer products featuring lifetime warranties. The company offers a wide selection of energy efficient products that are friendly to the environment and to homeowners’ pockets. Superior Products is an A+ member of the Better Business Bureau and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. The company has been recognized with various awards, including the 2009 Dealer of the Year Award from Window & Door magazine, and two first-place awards for exterior remodeling and siding projects from the HBA’s Colorado Awards for Remodeling Excellence. Most recently, Higgins was nominated as 2010 Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Denver Business Journal. “We conducted a survey with our customers, and the top two characteristics they used to describe our team were ‘professional’ and ‘quality work.’ Quite frankly, we feel this is the best endorsement a company can receive,” added Tom. The Superior Products showroom is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, at 6221 South Santa Fe in Littleton.
