Beneficial? Mountain Connection features a nonprofit every month and donates $250 to that featured nonprofit. To date, more than $91,000 in cold hard cash has been contributed by the Mountain Connection’s beneficiary program to local nonprofits. While the money is impressive, many nonprofits have told us that the free publicity—the free article published prominently monthly on Page 4 of the newspaper—may actually be more valuable because it tells their stories and reports their needs. They receive volunteers, clients, additional donations and many of their needs met because of the articles.

Mountain Connection was created almost 18 years ago to support and enable nonprofits, in addition to being an positive publication about family and community. It continues to hold that mission dear today. Goodwell/friendship? In addition to nearly $92,000 in cold hard cash donated to nonprofits by this newspaper, Mountain Connection builds community and helps etch positive community identity by publishing local people writing positive articles about history, family, the environment and life in general.

Magazines & Directories? Additionally, Mountain Connection partners with the Conifer and Platte Canyon chambers to create their chamber directories. The directories also serve as community magazines. The Mountain Connection proposed this unique relationship in which the chambers and the newspaper are “partners.” The newspaper sells and creates the ads and the magazine pages. The chambers prepare their membership lists. It is another way of supporting our communmities and building positive identity in the Mountain Connection area. We are connectors making positive connections!
Plus, Mountain Connection publishes the annual Home & Garden Show Magazine and the Health & Wellness glossy mini-directory/magazine.
Truth? We are a community conversation—local people telling their stories, building community and creating local identity.
The Mountain Connection speaks directly to its readers and customers from the pages of the newspaper. We invite “storytelling” articles monthly and publish as many as possible based on space availability.
All articles are written by local residents who donate their stories that are positive, entertaining or educational. There are no reporters on staff. We leave the “hard news” reporting to the community “news” newspaper. As a matter of fact, the Mountain Connection publisher actually encourages people to subscribe to the area’s “real” newspapers so the readers can be up to date about important news. Informed citizens make for a better community. It’s all about community!
Mountain Connection is different from typical newspapers. First, Mountain Connection is a free. Second, it’s an inoculation of “positive” stories about and by local people—our neighbors—to every business and home in the newspaper’s circulation area. The Mountain Connection is mailed to about 20,000 homes and businesses from Genesee through Evergreen, Kittredge, Conifer, Morrison, Pine and Bailey.
Business Profiles? Businesses may purchase a Business Profile to have their “stories” written by Mountain Connection writers. Experts may purchase and write “informational” articles–not self-promotional text—in the columns called From the Experts. Their contact information is at the end of the informational article.
All are edited by the publisher for truth, accuracy and storytelling ability.
Other Advertising? Mountain Connection income is from advertising. Rates are printed with discounts for frequent advertising. Rates are fair and equal for all advertisers. Ads are created at no cost to the customer and the customer approves the ad before it is published. If there is a problem with an ad, a discount is given to the customer equal to the percentage of error to the overall message of the ad. Additionally, if there is a major problem a free ad will be run. If there is a mistake anywhere in the paper, we happily print a correction.
