This is the fourth year that the Platte Canyon Area Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Connection have partnered to publish a directory and community magazine. It is my pleasure and honor to profile this dynamic community, and I believe this stunning, classy magazine does the area justice. This is an area that is growing but continues to epitomize mountain and recreational lifestyles.
Park County is authentically Colorado high country. It is not a look-alike suburb of Denver. It is not a strip mall neighborhood. Its the Rocky Mountain experience undiluted. Marvel at elk too numerous to count in herds so large they make it possible to image a time before man. Enjoy seeing an honest-to-goodness cowboy on a working horse. Stop in at a store or café and receive real rural hospitality. Look around. See rugged cliffs rising out of wildflower-splashed valleys. Gaze upon snow-capped 14,000-foot peaks that point to heaven and bring heaven to earth.
If you get involved in the community, dont be surprised to rub shoulders with high-tech executives, international business people, doctors, artists, entrepreneurs and stay-at-home moms. Very likely you will serve with the likes of all of them and more on various chamber or community committees.
Yes, this publication recognizes the glorious environment of Platte Canyon. But it most importantly salutes the quality of human beings who populate the community. There is a sense of being home, of being accepted, of being free to be yourself, of appreciation for differences and space to express those differences.
Platte Canyon and Bailey are growing. As U.S. Highway 285 is improved from Conifer to Bailey, the growth will continue. But this special community always will allow its residents to keep their heads in the clouds.
